Located at:

Smith, NV 89430
Open: Thurs, Fri, & Sat

Closed: Sun – Wed
How It Works
The transfer station attendant will direct you where to enter the transfer station facility and park your vehicle. The attendant will measure your load and you will be charged by the cubic yard. A cubic yard is a 3′ x 3′ x 3′ cube. The attendant will collect the disposal fee and direct you where to unload your trash on the floor. Do NOT, under any circumstances, approach the dump pit at the far end of the building – serious injury or death could occur. The attendant will dispose of your trash from where you dump it on the floor. Once you have unloaded your trash in a timely manner, please exit the building to make room for other customers.
If you woud like to measure your load before you go, in order to approximate your fees, you would measure the length, the width and the height of your load. You would then multiply those three figures together, divide by 27 and that is how many cubic yards your load contains.
For example, if your load measures 7’6″ L x 6′ W x 3′ H, then you would multiply 7.5 (seven and a half feet) x 6 x 3 = 135 135/27 = 5 cubic yards.
Please keep all children and/or pets secured within the passenger area of your vehicle at all times while at the transfer station facility. Do NOT, under any circumstances, approach the dump pit at the far end of the building; serious injury or death could occur. This facility is an industrial work area. Proper awareness and safety precautions should be used at all times. Do not leave your vehicle unattended.

What Happens To The Trash That I Dump?
There is currently no landfill operating in Lyon County, NV. All municipal solid waste dumped at the transfer station is loaded into a possum-bellied trailer that sits in the pit at the far end of the transfer station. Once full, the trailer is hauled by truck to Lockwood Regional Landfill, outside of Reno, NV, for burial.
